Moses Gibson

Moses Gibson was born in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee on  9 September 1813 to William and Nancy (Bellah) Gibson.  He was the first of 10 children born to William and Nancy and was a namesake of his grandfather, Moses Bellah.  At the death of Moses Bellah on 19 July 1828, his grandson, Moses Gibson, was one of two grandchildren mentioned in his will.

We have no information at present of the early life of Moses Gibson.  He married Nancy Amanda McKee, the daughter of Ambrose and Sallie (Bain) McKee on 5 December 1837 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.  We know of at least 3 children of this couple - James Ambrose, his twin brother John, and William [see Moses Gibson Family].   They were part of the larger Gibson family who left Rutherford County, Tennessee prior to 1844 and moved to Missouri.

Moses Gibson is believed to be one of the family members contracting malaria from the time they spent passing through swampy lowlands in their travels.  He apparently made it as far as Newton County, Missouri, but must have passed away shortly after their arrival in their new home.  He is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in the Old Gibson Cemetery E. of Neosho, Newton County, Missouri.  His estate was handled by his next oldest living brother, John.  Records still in existence in the Newton County Courthouse show John as the administrator of Moses' will with his wife, Nancy, and children - Ambrose, John, and William.

From old family stories, his wife, Nancy, is believed to have eventually returned back home to Tennessee.  She is quite likely to have been remarried there and had more children.  At present, we have very little information on what became of Nancy.
