This nice portrait is of the next oldest child of James and Clara, Martha C. "Mattie" Gibson, born 16 April 1874. We have no information on when or where this picture was taken. As she passed away in California in 1928, we can speculate this was taken well before then, probably about 1910.
Mattie married Walter Scott Hulse, son of Abraham Hulse, somewhere in Oklahoma. One of their children, Preston Rector Hulse, was born in 1891, so she was probably married ca 1890. Abraham Hulse was a life-long friend of Mattie's father, James Ambrose Gibson. James and Abraham fought together in the Civil War. Abraham died 15 July 1932 at the Old Confederates Home in Ardmore, Carter Co., Oklahoma.
An old manuscript, written by Mattie's older brother, Nathan, indicates that Abraham and James Ambrose were cousins. This has never been proven.
